Finally, here is the group picture of all my Halloween pumpkins this year! Not the best picture, I'll admit, but I was dead tired and it was my last chance to take some so I couldn't be that picky.
Honestly, this Halloween weekend sucked. I was really looking forward to it, since Halloween being on a Sunday meant I had an extra day for carving. I wanted to try and outdo last year, and after all the midterms I had the previous week, it was supposed to be a fun break.
The first thing that went wrong was the rot. 7 out of the 11 pumpkins I had bought on Tuesday had rotting spots on the bottom, in various levels of severity. That meant I had to slice off the bottoms of my pumpkins, which really sucked for some designs like Spiritomb. It also meant I couldn't easily use my pumpkin gutter, so I had to gut by hand.
Then Saturday night, after I realized I had left my DVD of Nightmare Before Christmas at home, I ended up messing up on the Jack Skellington face. Not wanting to let it get me down, I tried again on another pumpkin, only to screw that one up as well. I was able to at least salvage the pumpkin itself on the second one, and finally got it done on the third try. But it set me behind schedule, and I ended up being up all night carving the last two on Sunday.
Since it started off so badly, I was in a pretty bad mood while carving. But I pulled off some pretty mean pumpkins, so I guess that's what matters. Other highlights were hearing the band playing Nightmare Before Christmas themes at the football game through my window, and commandeering every tupperware in the apartment for pumpkin seeds.
Here's hoping that next year will be better!
