The third pumpkin of my big theme group for the year, which was inspired by my trip to Kyoto this spring. The experience changed my life, so I knew I had to carve some pumpkins based off it.
Now I started getting a little experimental in design. I wanted to carve an Oni mask from Noh plays, since they're kind of creepy and fitting for pumpkins. I also got the chance to see some live Noh while in Japan. It's much more entertaining in person than it is just watching a video.
I found the stencil from ~Branbot
here on DA, but it's more of a spray paint type design. Not very good for pumpkins. I experimented in adding shading spots for support while still trying to create the look of an entirely cut through pumpkin. I'm still not sure how I feel about the finished results. I think I should have tried something different with the eyes to get them to stand out. But I learned things, so I'm happy with that.
