Another October weekend, another pumpkin carved!

I've had this pattern for awhile, and I've always wanted to carve it. Finally got around to it this afternoon! And I must say, it was a tough one. If the whole thing wasn't shaded, I swear it would have fallen apart and broken everywhere. However I did shade the whole thing, at the cost of killing the batteries on my dremel.

I really love the whole glow you get from just shaded pumpkins. The whole thing is so warm. It's hard to capture it in a photograph, but I did my best. The other benefit is that they tend to last longer.

I see this one as a companion to the other fully shaded pumpkin I did a couple years ago, the phoenix. I'd like to see them next to each other.

Shaded pumpkins are like a fire that has died down to just the embers; they have that same memory of lingering warmth that a lit pumpkin or roaring fire is so contrary to.
